Creators After Dark

What is Creators After Dark?

Creators After Dark(CAD) is a safe and fun environment created by Juliette Michele for adult nerd, spicy content creators, and devoted fans to get manhandle by their favorite creators. It was held from April 3-5 in the Dallas area during Easter weekend and is the third event organize by Madam President Juliette Michele. The previous events were Waifu Expo and Kimochii con which I also had the opportunity to attend.

The hotel, One aspect of creating a successful convention

Creator After Dark was held at Renaissance Dallas Richardson Hotel which was perfect for this event. It was perfect because the relationship between the hotel.

The staff and security for the hotel were not phase by the event and this made the bubble of the convention not burst. They did not require black curtains to be hanged that you can see through as people or wind blow through. The cosplay meetup was held in the lower level of the lobby which was spacious enough for large groups to gather. Had this not be an option we would have had so many traffic jams in the convention space for organized meetup. Some panels were also near the lobby and would have made it feel like you weren’t at a convention had you had to cover up between the security check point and the panel room door. The security was down to earth and even was trying to have fun as they did their jobs. Honestly, the relationship the hotel had with the event was extremely positive and made it a better experience than Waifu and Kimochii.

The convention center was the right size for a first-year convention. The exhibit hall did not feel overcrowded or the lanes being too small. The only instance were I almost collided with someone was walking between the artist alley entrance and exhibit hall exit. Which was totally my fault as I was trying to collapse my softbox as I walked since there was a small crowd Infront of the Ikkicon and Otaku odyssey booth.

The event was contained in the hotel amazingly and though it didn’t look jaw dropping the hotel was pretty in its own way and fit the event well.

Cost

The parking garage located across the street had a daily rate of $24 but apparently the CAD website states that “Discounted parking at the Eisemann Garage(the one across the street) is $10/day (must be validated at the hotel).” If you booked a room at the hotel it comes with self parking and the daily rate, “was 139.00 USD – 219.00 USD per night”. The Dallas area has a range of food choices such as Brazilian steak house… usually $50 or Japanese all you can eat… $55. You can also stay with fast food choices for $15. All in all the hotel price is reasonable for the area and an easy split between 4 friends.

New ideas

CAD had an interesting room called the interactive lounge which replaced the VIP dinning. This room had a few guests inside that you could interactive with, play board games, and a dance pole. On schedule time it was changed into Live Cosplay Model Drawing, Sugar Bunny Lounge, Gunpla BUILDING Workshop, and the Temptation Tea House.  Just imagine the person you only see on screen being across from you playing connect four, UNO, or Jenga in cosplay or being a model for your art. Speaking of art shoutout to AngySheep for designing the cute sign artwork found around the convention and on the site.

Looking to the future

CAD is looking to stay. Immediately after the convention finished an attendee feedback form was posted asking attendee about their experience. The survey takes less then 5minutes asking people about their experience and  what they want to see in the future and how to improve. CAD plans for 2027 and even if it decides to stay at this amazing atmosphere hotel which it will outgrow very quickly or return to a previous hotel such as Kimochii which allows for room to grow would not be a wrong decision .In the future we hope that other events do not conflict with this event so it can maximize gains. Easter weekend had 2 other conventions in Dallas which fought for the same pool of local population. People will travel to CAD from across the nation as awareness build for it. There are a few vlog video on CAD and we hope you check them as these video give you a good feel of what it is like at the convention. The biggest surprise of the convention was the announcement of Jessica Nigri and we hope she continues to return to the event. Once a fan of a creator, always a fan and we hope to recreate fun and lasting memories. in the future
